Screening: Papers - Today - San Francisco


There is a free screening today at San Francisco's Main Library (100 Larkin Street,
San Francisco, CA 94102) of the feature length documentary, Papers: The Movie, which tells the story of undocumented youth and the challenges they face as they turn 18 without legal status. The screening begins at 5 p.m. in the Koret Auditorium. Produced by Graham Street Productions in association with El Grupo Juvenil, the film looks at the situation for 65,000 undocumented students who graduate every year from U.S. high schools without papers, unable to attend college, find jobs or obtain a driver’s license.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Alejandra Rincón, the author of Undocumented Immigrants and Higher Education: ¡Sí se Puede! Dr. Rincón will discuss the history of the struggle to secure immigrant students’ access to higher education. In addition, the Asian Law Caucus will provide panelists drawn from their API Immigrant youth group ASPIRE: Asian Students Promoting Immigrant Rights through Education.
